Tyra Sergeant

Ballet RAD RTS

Tyra Sergeant has been recognized for her dancing, choreography, and teaching throughout her career. She began training extensively in classical ballet at the age of three, and later complimented her training with modern, jazz, and musical theatre. Tyra has been passionate about teaching from a very young age. After graduating, she pursued her Teaching Certificate at Simon Fraser University while continuing to teach ballet.

Shortly before finishing university, Tyra realized she could not leave her classical ballet roots behind and formally pursued her Royal Academy of Dance teaching certificate. Since then, she has successfully entered Exam candidates from Primary to Advanced 2. After over two decades of teaching, Tyra remains passionate about sharing her love of dance with her students. From 2010 to 2023, Tyra was the Artistic Director of the Central Dance Academy. She also directed local performances including an excerpt of “The Nutcracker” performed with the Surrey City Orchestra as well as co-produced an excerpt of “Swan Lake”, all performed by students from the Lower Mainland. Tyra has tremendous pride in all of her students, many who have won local and international awards, scholarships, danced professionally, or become dance instructors themselves. With extensive knowledge of classical ballet and a specialization in the R.A.D. syllabi, she is celebrated for her attention to detail and performance quality, as well as her ability to push students to achieve their personal best.

Tyra believes in life long learning and continues to grow as an instructor, finding daily inspiration from her students as well as her three daughters who each love to dance. She is very excited to be joining Affinity and looks forward to sharing her passion for dance with her students!
